La Jolla is a smart seaside area, known for its rugged coastline. Home to Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve and the 2 courses at world-renowned Torrey Pines Golf Course, atop sea cliffs. Known at the "Golden Triangle", University City is a large residential and commercial district neighboring La Jolla. It's community name is derived from the proximity to the University of California, San Diego. It’s divided by Rose Canyon Open Space Park, where hiking trails pass through valleys, shrub-covered hills, and woodland. The Westfield UTC outdoor mall includes upscale fashion chains, trendy eateries, and an ice rink.
Point Loma is a rugged peninsula, bordered on the west and south by the Pacific Ocean, the east by the San Diego Bay and Old Town, and the north by the San Diego River. Due to it's unique hill point location, Point Loma offers a great view of the entire San Diego coast! Home to Cabrillo National Monument, a park with trails, tide pools and exhibits on California history, Sunset Cliffs Natural Park and Liberty Station, a former Naval Training Center with restaurants and shops.
This relaxed beach neighborhood is a popular spot for surfers and sunbathers, with it's large sandy beach. Known to locals as PB, Pacific Beach is home to the boardwalk which is lined with a variety of trendy hotels, bars and cafes. The surrounding streets are dotted with clothing boutiques, yoga studios and casual drinking spots that draw a young, bar-hopping crowd.
Coronado has a rich history and exceptional community assets in a village atmosphere. Surrounded by the San Diego Bay and the Pacific Ocean, Coronado offers a unique lifestyle enjoyed by residents and has also welcomed visitors from around the world for nearly 120 years. Coronado beaches are consistently considered some of Southern California's best, and there are miles of bike paths along the coastline that provide a great way to exercise and enjoy the spectacular scenery.
Just north of Point Loma, this small beach town is a favorite among locals who spend their days surfing, sunbathing around the pier. It's namesake Pier is also a popular local fishing spot with sweeping views. Ocean Beach has a throw-back bohemian vibe of vintage SoCal, coupled with friendly locals, great dining and micro brews, and a vibrant nightlife scene.
At the geographic midpoint of San Diego, Mission Valley has long been at the center of urban development. Split by the San Diego River, Mission Valley is home to several shopping malls ringed by big box stores and chain restaurants. It’s named for California’s first Spanish mission, San Diego de Alcalá, established in 1769 and still operating here as a Catholic parish in a reconstructed building.
